According to a survey conducted by INSCOP Research, 52.4% of Romanians believe that Romania's membership in the European Union does not limit national independence too much, while 38.1% think it does.

I believe that Romania's membership in the European Union limits national independence too much, especially: PSD and AUR voters, people aged 45 to 59, and public sector employees. They consider that Romania's membership in the European Union does NOT limit national independence too much, especially: PNL and USR voters, people with higher education, residents of Bucharest, and those with low income.

The graphical presentation of the data is available at: https://www.inscop.ro/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/8.09.-Grafic-INSCOP.pdf

These are just a few of the results of the opinion poll conducted by INSCOP Research on behalf of the think tank Polithink between August 4 – 10, 2025. The study extensively analyzes the perceptions of Romanians regarding two essential themes for the future of the country: Romania's foreign policy directions and the digitalization of public services.

The data is extracted from a comprehensive sociological research conducted by INSCOP Research, which will be presented on September 9, 2025, during the first edition of Statecraft Lab organized by the think tank Polithink, a reference event dedicated to the dialogue between technology, diplomacy, and governance focused on two thematic panels:  E-Governing Romania: Accelerating digitalization through successful European examples, and Romania's foreign policy in a changing world.

Methodology: The data was collected between August 4-10, 2025. Research method: interview via questionnaire. The data was collected using the CATI method (telephone interviews), with a simple stratified sample volume of 1107 people, representative of significant socio-demographic categories (gender, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 and over. The maximum allowable error of the data is ± 2.95%, at a confidence level of 95%.

Remus Ștefureac – director INSCOP Research: "The assessment confirms the pro-Western orientation of the largest part of the Romanian population. On the other hand, internal ideological declinations, whether authentic or similar to the subversive narratives of hostile powers to the European Union, influence Romanians' opinions regarding the national-European relationship."

Andreea Paul – president Polithink: "Polithink is an independent space for expertise and strategy. A think tank designed to support the current political class. Today, Romania needs, more than ever, independent spaces that cultivate strategic thinking, promote informed decisions, and connect relevant expertise with the real challenges of the state. From this impulse, Polithink is born."

The survey was conducted between August 4-10, 2025, and will be presented during the Statecraft Lab event, dedicated to dialogue on foreign policy and digitalization themes.
