According to BAROMETER Informat.ro - INSCOP Research conducted between May 26-30, 2025, the possibility of a conflict/war involving Romania is by far the most important source of concern for almost 42% of Romanians.
BAROMETER Informat.ro - INSCOP Research is a monthly opinion poll conducted by INSCOP Research commissioned by the news platform Informat.ro in partnership with the think-tank Strategic Thinking Group.
Informat.ro - INSCOP Research aims to bring to public attention topics of interest in order to stimulate national conversations on various topics and public policies essential for the present and future of Romania, based on the opinion of Romanians in partnership with prestigious think tanks and academic institutions. It is an approach through which we aim to contribute to the consolidation of democracy through the use of scientific and credible tools that bring the voice of citizens to the forefront of public debate.
Methodology: The data was collected between May 26-30, 2025. Research method: questionnaire interview. Data were collected using the CATI method (telephone interviews), the simple stratified sample size was 1150 persons, representative by significant socio-demographic categories (gender, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 years and over. The maximum permissible error of the data is ± 2.9% at 95% confidence level.
Remus Ștefureac - Director INSCOP Research: "Most Romanians (almost 42%) are worried about the possibility of a conflict/war involving Romania, which is almost three times higher than the next sources of concern, namely worsening health (15%) and rising prices (almost 15%). Russia's military aggression in Ukraine, the escalation of the conflict and the difficulties in reaching a peace settlement are among the reasons for this perception. In addition to these objective motivations, there are persistent disinformation actions promoted by local political entities that have spread false Russian narratives with a clear electoral purpose. However, beyond the hostile propaganda aimed at provoking dissension in Romanian society, the security risks are real and cause strong anxiety among Romanians. This is why trust in NATO and the Romanian Army is so high, and why a strong majority support increased spending on equipping the Romanian Army, as previous INSCOP surveys have captured."
