The case was investigated by the Maryland health department and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and confirmed by the CDC as a South American cutworm on Aug. 4 - and involved a patient who returned from a trip to El Salvador. The confirmation comes shortly after US Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins traveled to Texas to announce plans to build a sterile fly facility as part of efforts to control the pest.
