Starting from January 1, 2026, the College of Physicians in Romania will adopt a new Medical Ethics Code, which will establish strict rules for the ethics and professional conduct of physicians. This code will prohibit the dissemination of unvalidated scientific information and will regulate the use of telemedicine and Artificial Intelligence in medical practice. Additionally, physicians will be required to adhere to the principles of evidence-based medicine and to communicate accurate and verifiable information in the public space and on social media.

The new code will introduce clear norms for the presence of physicians on social media, prohibiting the denigration of colleagues and establishing conciliation procedures for professional conflicts. Another innovation is the creation of a personal health code, which will function as a digital key for accessing the medical file of each Romanian, automatically issued at birth and valid throughout their entire life. This system will allow physicians real-time access to patients' medical history, thus improving the doctor-patient relationship.
