A new malpractice law, a priority for the College of Physicians, this year

Catalina Poiana, the president of the College of Physicians in Romania (CMR), announced that one of the organization's priorities for the year 2026 is the adoption of a new malpractice law. The current law is considered ineffective, mainly benefiting insurance companies, without providing advantages to doctors or patients. Poiana emphasized the importance of transparency and safety in medical practice, proposing fair regulation for all parties involved. Although CMR cannot initiate legislation, it will collaborate to support these reforms. Other legislative initiatives supported by CMR include a law on the medical profession, a new health law, and regulations for the care of patients with terminal illnesses.
