Alexandru Rafila stated that by 2050, infections with multidrug-resistant bacteria will become the leading cause of death worldwide, estimating that annually, in the European Union, 50,000 people die from these nosocomial infections. He emphasized the link between excessive antibiotic consumption and bacterial resistance, highlighting the differences between the Nordic and Southern countries in antibiotic use.
