DSP Iași is investigating a possible outbreak of infection with the bacteria Serratia marcescens, after five children died in the ICU of the hospital.

The Public Health Directorate of Iași has launched an epidemiological investigation at the 'Sfânta Maria' Children's Hospital, where five children hospitalized in Intensive Care have died, being suspected of infections with the bacteria Serratia Marcescens. A mixed team of specialists is assessing the situation, and the hospital has implemented measures to limit the spread of the infection. The hospital management has not made any statements, and the ICU has been closed. The children were aged up to eight years and suffered from various serious conditions. The hospital was recently renovated, with the work completed in 2023.
