The conflict between Israel and Iran is at the center of international political debates. The strategic success of the campaign of Israeli and US air strikes, along with Iran's reaction to the bombing are the most important elements discussed. At the same time, the reluctance of the US to adopt new measures to sanction Russia, despite the impasse in the negotiating process, highlights the difference of vision and approach within NATO. The Chinese and Russian reaction to the Alliance summit is also another topic on the international agenda.

Israel-Iran conflict

  • Israeli officials said they could have eliminated Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, but security measures prevented them from doing so.
  • The US and Israel have demanded that Iran hand over its stockpile of enriched uranium, in the context of the attack on Iranian nuclear sites.
  • The US military confirmed the precise destruction of the targets in Fordo, amid debate in Western media about the impact of the US strikes
  • Ayatollah Khamenei reacted by claiming that Iran had emerged victorious, "slapped America" and that Israel "almost collapsed."

The war in Ukraine

  • Russia has captured a village in eastern Ukraine near a valuable lithium deposit amid a continuing offensive in the country's eastern region.
  • South Korea warns that the regime in Pyongyang is prepared to send more troops to support Russia from July.
  • The toll of Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities shows significant casualties at Dnipro: 17 dead and nearly 300 wounded.
  • The US president says he is open to participating in peace talks in Turkey, if Vladimir Putin would attend. The Kremlin has not confirmed openness to such an initiative.
  • Marco Rubio emphasized US opposition to imposing new sanctions on Russia, although in talks with his counterparts he acknowledged that Russian opposition is the main obstacle to a peace deal.

NATO summit

  • Serghei Lavrov reacted to NATO's agreement to increase military budgets. The Russian foreign minister said the decision would not have a significant impact on Russia's security.
  • Chinese representatives reacted in turn to the alliance's decisions, calling NATO a "war machine" that spreads conflict.
  • Germany is prepared to adopt compulsory military service if the plan to increase the number of soldiers through voluntary conscription does not have the desired effects.
  • Top entities mentioned

    1. Iran
    2. Israel
    3. Russia
    4. Donald Trump
    5. NATO
