Foreign interference in the elections, the aftermath of the recent protests in Bucharest, the political tensions at the top or the phenomenon of communist nostalgia were the central topics that focused the interest of Romanian internet users during Monday. The findings below refer to the top 100 viral news headlines by the volume of interactions generated on Facebook the previous day. They describe the topics that attracted the most attention online.

Interference attributed to Russia in the Romanian electoral process took center stage. President Nicușor Dan's Facebook post about NATO, EU and UK confirmations of cyber-tampering operations in the elections in various European states were picked up and detailed in several articles [Adevărul, Biziday.ro, tvrinfo.ro].

The topic was complemented by news of an official invitation from US President Donald Trump to the Romanian leader [epochtimes-romania.com, Stirile PROTV].

Another focus was on the aftermath of Sunday's protests, in particular through details of the case of the driver who blocked the A1. His detention, criminal records, fines and reactions were documented in detail [Stirile PROTV, Adevărul, pochtimes-romania.com].

An INSCOP poll, picked up in several sources, showed that about two-thirds of respondents considered Nicolae Ceausescu a good leader for Romania, a result explained by the impact of social networks [HotNews.ro, biziday.ro, republica.ro].

In the domestic political arena, numerous materials have referred to tensions between PSD and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, with a focus on Paul Stănescu's messages [g4media.ro, Digi 24, ziaristii.com].

The topic of education has returned frequently through the positions of Minister Daniel David, who has warned of the gravity of the crisis in the system. Critical messages from some high school principals and discussions on salary levels have kept the sector in the public eye [edupedu.ro].

***** Synthesis realized with the help of a monitoring feed provided by the NewsVibe Romania, team based on several online monitoring software. The top viral links are measured based on the number of interactions generated on Facebook by topics from the Romanian online press. Virality is measured by the cumulative number of likes, comments and shares obtained by various links over the course of a day.
We can observe, every time, that the virality of a link is not directly proportional to the overall impact of an online source. Often, links coming from local sources, or niche pages can get significantly more interactions than traditional media sources.
The analysis, data and images presented have been enhanced using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence tools.
