An Earth observation satellite has successfully autonomously identified what it was looking for for the first time, without human analysis on the ground. The demonstration took place in April 2026 on YAM-9, a spacecraft built by Loft Orbital, using NASA JPL software and the Gemma 3 model from Google DeepMind.
