Digital Duel by NewsVibe. TOP 5 parties in the Romanian online space, in the last week

The last few days have seen an intensification of discussions about the current year's budget, political and union protests, while the presidential election debates continue, leading to an increase in online conversations about political actors, including the main parties.
According to NewsVibe data, a real-time online trend detection tool, the number of online mentions about parties increased compared to the previous week, for all parties analyzed, except SOS Romania, which registered a decrease. The biggest increases were recorded by PSD, with more than 48%, and AUR, with almost 90%.
PSD also overtook PNL, ranking first in the last 7 days, and, for the first time, AUR moved up to 3rd place, ahead of USR.

VOL OF MENTIONS. For the PSD, PNL and USR, the peak of mentions was reached on Monday, January 13, when the public space was filled with messages related to the coalition's joint candidate, the realization of the draft budget or the PSD initiative on administrative reorganization.
For AUR, the peak moment was generated by the protest organized on Sunday, January 12, at the initiative of the party led by George Simion.

COMPARATORY VIEW. Ratioing the estimated impact of mentions to their number, we notice decreases in the cases of PNL and PSD, and increases for AUR and USR - due to references to these two parties in high impact sources. SOS Romania remains far behind the rest of the top players, both in terms of the impact of mentions and the actual number of mentions, which was negligible.

IMPACT. The virtual curve of the estimated impact of mentions faithfully follows that of actual mentions, in the cases of PSD, PNL and PSD. The highest cumulative impact is the mentions of the three parties on January 13, against the backdrop of the debate in the most relevant online sources on several political topics, described above.
In the case of AUR, there are two relevant peaks of impact - January 12, when AUR organized a political protest in Bucharest and January 14, when AUR asked the Parliament to trigger the procedures for the suspension of President Iohannis. The impact of the two moments is similar, although mentions of AUR on January 12 were notably higher than those on January 14, suggesting that the second moment was covered by sources with higher impact.

ACCELERATION TRENDS. The acceleration trend, visible in the graph below, identifies moments when more than usual online content was published about the analyzed actors online.
The biggest increases are for AUR, on the day of the protest on January 12, and for PSD, on January 13, when party leaders announced their intention to promote a project for the administrative reorganization of the country.
