The European Union has decided that member states can prohibit navigation applications, such as Waze, from providing alerts about mobile radars, speed cameras, and police patrols.

This option was established following a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union, but it does not automatically obligate states to implement restrictions. The former head of the Road Police in Bulgaria, Alexey Kesyakov, emphasized that the decision only offers the opportunity to impose bans, without being an obligation. Public discussions on this topic are ongoing. Experts, such as pilot Rumen Dunev, believe that the priority should be to protect responsible drivers. Cybersecurity expert Kiril Grigorov mentioned that navigation applications can contribute to road safety, and if a country decides to ban radar-related features, developers can only disable those specific features. Each member state will independently decide whether such a measure is necessary.
