On the first day of the campaign for the parliamentary elections on April 12, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán warned that if FIDESZ does not win, Hungary could be drawn into war. Orbán referred to the bombings in 1944 on the city of Békéscsaba and emphasized the importance of maintaining national unity to avoid conflict. He discussed the war in Ukraine, highlighting the human cost and criticizing the European Union for its support of the prolongation of the conflict. Orbán mentioned that Ukraine's accession to the EU could severely affect Hungary and emphasized that his country had exercised a veto against opening accession negotiations. He also discussed the impact of energy prices on Hungarian households and defended the national economic model, warning against the influence of Brussels. Orbán concluded by appealing to voters to support a government capable of protecting Hungary's sovereignty and avoiding involvement in war.
