The European Parliament will debate and adopt next week, during the plenary session in Strasbourg, a resolution on Russia’s attacks on several commercial vessels in the Black Sea. The initiative belongs to USR MEP Dan Barna and enjoys broad support from the pro-European groups, according to a statement issued by his office.

Through this resolution, the European legislature is set to condemn the actions of the Russian Federation near the territorial waters of Romania and Bulgaria. The move concerns attacks that endanger the lives of sailors and the safety of commercial transport in the region.

According to the statement, the incidents affect not only navigation, but also the economy and food security. Rising transport costs may affect European and global markets, especially in North Africa, the Middle East and Asia, regions dependent on grain exports from the Black Sea area.

The adoption of the resolution would represent an official position of the European Parliament regarding the risks generated by Russia’s actions in the vicinity of the territorial waters of certain member states of the European Union.
