The report 'State of the Climate Romania 2025' highlights the severe impact of climate change, predicting that by 2040, half of the urban population will be affected by extreme heat waves. The temperature difference between the center of Bucharest and rural areas is between +3 and +8 degrees Celsius, caused by the Urban Heat Island effect. The year 2025 marked an intensification of extreme weather events, with a record drought lasting 41 months and over 1,000 severe events reported in 2024.

It is also estimated that Romania's economy emits twice as much CO2 as the EU average, and the transition to a circular economy could create 50,000 green jobs by 2030. Adapting to climate change is becoming a strategic necessity, and cooperation between research, authorities, and society is essential to transform climate information into concrete actions.
