Following the return of the heatwave on Sunday, Greece on Monday announced the closure of the Acropolis on Tuesday, when temperatures are expected to reach 38C. This is not the first closure due to extreme heat, with similar situations occurring in June and last July. The measure was taken for the "safety of workers and visitors". The heatwave also led to 41 fires breaking out across the country, with 34 quickly brought under control and seven remaining active. A category 4 fire warning has been issued for five regions.
