The European Commission estimates a 54% reduction in EU greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990, close to the 55% target. Although most member countries have made progress, disparities and forest degradation remain major problems. Brussels is criticizing countries like Belgium and Poland that have not submitted their plans, as it prepares for COP30 in Brazil. However, negotiations on 2040 targets are stalled and environmentalists fear a weakening of the green pact.
