Following an inspection carried out by the National Environmental Guard, it was found that 85% of the waste generated in Bucharest ends up untreated in the landfill.

The recycling rate is only 11.63%, significantly below the legal threshold of 50%.

Fines of 430,000 lei have been imposed for non-compliance with waste management regulations. GNM Commissioner, Andrei Corlan, emphasized the need for a systemic solution to improve recycling and reduce costs for citizens.
