The island of Samar in the Philippines was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6 on the Richter scale, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake occurred on Monday at 2:09 PM local time, at a depth of 73.3 kilometers.

So far, no casualties have been reported, but a local police official expressed concerns about possible aftershocks. The Philippines are known for their intense seismic activity, facing earthquakes daily.

In October, two earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.4 and 6.7 resulted in the deaths of at least eight people. These were aftershocks of a previous earthquake of 6.9, which killed 76 people and destroyed or damaged 72,000 homes in Cebu province.
