NewMoney: Words in the Romanian language borrowed from German

Over 400 words from standard Romanian, including the popular terms "bere" and "șpriț", are of German origin, says linguist Bogdan Harhăță.

In total, the Romanian language has borrowed approximately 4,700 words from German, says linguist Bogdan Harhăță (50 years old), a scientific researcher at the "Sextil Pușcariu" Institute of Linguistics and Literary History (in Cluj-Napoca) of the Romanian Academy and a lecturer at the University of Turin. Among these, the linguist has selected over 400 words that exist in standard Romanian.
