In the academic year 2026-2027, future students need to adjust their budgets, as many universities significantly increase tuition fees. The increases vary, reaching up to 47% in some specializations, such as Law at 'Lucian Blaga' University in Sibiu, where the fee has risen from 3,400 to 5,000 lei. State universities are no longer necessarily cheap options, and fees for Law range between 4,400 and 8,800 lei. Medicine remains the most expensive choice, with annual fees of approximately 19,000 lei at state universities and up to 10,000 euros in the private system. Universities justify the fee increases by inflation and higher operating costs. This situation particularly affects students who do not secure budget places, and total costs, including rent and study materials, can reach tens of thousands of lei per year.
