The Ministry of Education and Research has stated that the information appearing in the public space regarding the disappearance of approximately 30,000 positions in pre-university education for the school year 2025-2026 is incorrect. These figures refer to positions occupied through fixed-term contracts, on an hourly pay basis, not to permanent positions. The Ministry explained that these contracts are valid only during the school courses, and during the holidays, the number of reported teaching positions decreases.
Currently, the number of positions with fixed-term employment has been reduced from approximately 30,000 to 16,000, and the uncovered hours have been redistributed to tenured and substitute teachers. Ministry representatives emphasize that this is not about the elimination of positions, but about a reorganization of teaching norms, and the information regarding a massive reduction in staff does not reflect the reality in the educational system.
