According to data published on June 30 by the National Institute of Statistics, the school population has increased by 33,100 students in the 2025-2026 school/university year, reaching a total of 3,518,700. This represents the largest increase in the last five years, particularly supported by high school education (+5%) and higher education (+2.2%). However, the number of graduates has decreased by 2.5%, reaching 489,800, marking the second consecutive year of decline. Significant decreases have been observed among high school graduates (-17%) and in middle school education. The enrollment rate in education was 72.4%, with the lowest values among high school boys and young people aged 19-23. The distribution of the school population varies significantly between regions, with Bucharest-Ilfov having the highest proportion of students, while South-Muntenia stands out with a high proportion of middle school students.
