The German automotive group Volkswagen recorded a net profit of 1.54 billion euros in the second quarter of 2026, marking a decrease of 32.9% compared to the same period last year, amid a significant reduction in sales in the Chinese market. The operating profit was 3.5 billion euros, 9.5% lower than in Q2 2025. Although revenues slightly increased to 82.4 billion euros, exceeding analysts' estimates, total vehicle deliveries fell by nearly 9%, reaching 2.08 million units, with a decline of over a third in China.

CEO Oliver Blume highlighted the ongoing challenges in the industry, including tariffs and geopolitical tensions. Additionally, the company's restructuring plan faces opposition, and Volkswagen announced its intention to cut 50,000 jobs in Germany by 2030. In light of the financial results falling short of expectations, the group has revised its estimates for the entire year of 2026, anticipating a sales decline of up to 3%.
