UMB Steel will take over ArcelorMittal Hunedoara, according to the conclusions of the Competition Council, which established that the transaction will not negatively affect competition in the Romanian market. The sale of the assets was approved by the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders of ArcelorMittal for 12.5 million euros plus VAT. UMB Steel, part of the UMB group owned by the Umbrărescu family, operates in the construction and metal production sectors.
The transaction includes production equipment, materials, inventories, and the land associated with the factory in Hunedoara County, which ceased operations in September 2025. UMB Steel will also take over the environmental obligations associated with previous activities. ArcelorMittal Hunedoara had approximately 100 employees, compared to 500 the previous year, when production was halted. In 2006, the plant recorded business of 746.5 million lei and a net profit of 22.5 million lei.
