According to economist Mark Zandi, the U.S. economy is heading towards recession, with 22 states and the District of Columbia already affected by persistent weaknesses. California and New York are in stagnation, and a recession in California is becoming plausible. Economic policy, including tariffs imposed by Trump, has led to uncertainties and job losses. Although GDP shows growth, Zandi emphasizes the weakness of the labor market and the negative impact on states with weak agricultural or industrial economies.
