The budget of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) will increase in 2026 by approximately 14%, exceeding the threshold of 5 billion lei, according to the budget project published by the Ministry of Finance. The increase occurs in a context of budgetary austerity, and the largest part of the funds, approximately 71%, is allocated to the salaries and pensions of employees.

Thus, about 2.5 billion lei will go towards salaries, and over 1.2 billion lei for pensions, with the remaining amounts being allocated for goods, services, and investments. The increase in the budget is justified by the authorities due to the evolution of security risks in the region, especially against the backdrop of the conflict in Ukraine and the tense situation in Romania's eastern neighborhood.
