Bogdan Ivan, the Minister of Energy, stated that the SMR (Small Modular Reactors) project at Doicești is in the final stage of design and feasibility studies. This project anticipates the construction of 6 small modular nuclear reactors, each having an installed capacity of 77 MW, which will generate a total of 462 MW of constant and safe energy.

The project will create over 2,000 jobs during the construction period and will ensure 230 permanent jobs for the operation of the plant. Ivan emphasized the importance of the technology, which has received design approvals from the U.S. nuclear regulator, and called for a detailed analysis for the development of other SMR projects in Romania. He takes responsibility for bringing clarity and rigor to decisions related to nuclear energy, emphasizing that Romania has stagnated too long in this field.
