The price of oil rose by 14% on Monday morning, at the opening of Asian markets, after a 10% increase on Sunday.

This sudden increase was triggered by attacks launched by Israel and the United States on Iran, which led to the killing of the Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated with counterattacks and restricted maritime transport through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial point for global energy trade, through which about one-fifth of daily oil shipments pass. Experts warn that, without signs of de-escalation, oil prices could undergo a significant reassessment. A prolonged increase in prices could reignite global inflation and reduce demand.

In this context, eight countries from OPEC+ have decided to increase daily production to limit excessive price increases, however, transporting them from the Middle East remains a challenge.
