The National Bank of Romania (BNR) reported a decrease in foreign exchange reserves in May, by 785 million euros, reaching a total of 64.051 billion euros, compared to 64.836 billion euros at the end of April. During this period, inflows amounted to 2.253 billion euros, coming from changes in the minimum foreign currency reserves of credit institutions, funding of the accounts of the Ministry of Finance and the European Commission.

On the other hand, outflows totaled 3.038 billion euros, including payments for public debt denominated in foreign currency, which represented approximately 1.417 billion euros. Gold reserves remained constant at 103.6 tons, with a value of 12.991 billion euros. As of May 31, Romania's international reserves, including currencies and gold, amounted to 77.042 billion euros, down from 78.007 billion euros on April 30. Payments due in June for public debt denominated in foreign currency amount to approximately 178 million euros.
