The European Commission has confirmed that it has taken note of the decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania regarding the special pensions of magistrates, according to a spokesperson. It is analyzing Romania's request to recover 231 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, where the reform of special pensions was a committed milestone. The milestone was suspended in May 2025, and Romania had until November 28, 2025, to address the reported deficiencies.

Minister Dragos Pîslaru stated that Romania will present evidence regarding the fulfillment of the reform, but uncertainty remains regarding the recovery of funds, considering the delays in implementation. Pîslaru emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts to convince the Commission that the reform has been completed.
