The President of the Union of Poultry Farmers in Romania (UCPR), Ilie Van, stated that the demand for eggs increases by 50% during the pre-Easter period, with farmers organizing their flows to meet this demand.
Romanians consume approximately 30 eggs during this period, compared to 21 in a regular month.
Farm gate prices have remained stable, with eggs from the cage system priced at 68-70 bani, an increase of 7-8 bani compared to last year. Additionally, the Romanian poultry sector has delivered over one billion eggs in intra-community exchanges, representing 30% of production.
The biosecurity program implemented on farms has helped prevent the occurrence of avian influenza, and the poultry industry has recorded good results, with 587,000 tons of poultry meat produced in 2025. Constant investments in poultry farms and the European animal welfare program have had a positive impact on the sector.
However, farmers are concerned about the future of European support after 2027.
The total egg production in Romania is estimated to be between 5.6 and 5.8 billion pieces in 2025, with the potential to reach six billion.
