Romania is strengthening its position in the regional rapeseed market, amid a strong harvest and Turkey’s return to buying

Romania is strengthening its position in the regional rapeseed market after this season’s strong harvest and supply difficulties in other parts of the Black Sea basin increased demand for Romanian produce. Shipments through the port of Constanța have reached high levels, while Turkey’s return to the market has intensified trade flows.

In the previous season, Turkish buyers focused mainly on Ukrainian rapeseed. Now, Romanian producers and traders are benefiting from the country’s geographic position and the port infrastructure in Constanța, which rapidly connects the Black Sea and Danube regions to foreign markets.

This development is strengthening Constanța’s role as a regional hub for oilseeds and vegetable oils. Traders and processors could retain some of the new commercial relationships even after Ukrainian exports recover, if stable supply chains are established.

The outlook for the 2027 harvest is more uncertain, however. A lack of soil moisture could make land preparation and the sowing of winter rapeseed more difficult. Precipitation in the coming period will be essential for the area planted and for regional supply.
