Liberalization of the Romanian energy market has encountered significant difficulties, culminating in the reintroduction of regulations due to the global energy crisis and the war in Ukraine. A recent conference discussed the need to protect consumers and control inflation, measures that will cost more than RON 20 billion. While deregulation remains a long-term goal, the authorities stress the importance of a gradual transition. The status of vulnerable consumers also needs to be clarified to ensure adequate protection.
