Tánczos Barna, the interim Minister of Agriculture, sent a letter to the European Commission, requesting the mobilization of the agricultural reserve to support the dairy sector in Romania, in the context of its economic deterioration.

The prices of milk have significantly decreased in the first four months of 2026, with an average reduction of 8.59% in January and up to 10.64% in March. Although the total milk production increased by 14.11%, the quantity marketed decreased by 10.6%, highlighting a major imbalance between production and demand. Tánczos emphasized the need for a detailed analysis of the milk market and called for the improvement of data collection and reporting to support Romanian farmers at the European level.

He stated that it is essential to present a real picture of the situation on the ground and to adopt measures that contribute to stabilizing the milk market.
