What figures does the report show regarding the positions occupied in public administration in January 2026

In January 2026, the number of occupied positions in public administration decreased by 32,203 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to Agerpres data. Almost 63.77% of these positions were in central public administration, totaling 816,514 employees, a decrease of 25,750. The Ministry of Education remains with the highest number of employees, 293,922, recording a decrease of 14,130. The Ministry of Internal Affairs increased by 745 positions, reaching 125,676, while the Ministry of National Defense lost 4,914 employees, now having 76,175. At the local level, 463,791 people were employed, with a decrease of 6,453 compared to January 2025. This trend reflects an adjustment of human resources in the public sector, with implications for the services provided to citizens.
