Online fashion retailer Shein will invest €500 million to expand its European logistics center near the city of Wrocław, Poland, with the aim of speeding up deliveries and increasing its operational flexibility.
The expansion of the facility is expected to bring employment to more than 10,000 people and lead to the installation of 6,500 autonomous robots by the end of 2026. Customers in certain European markets will be able to receive products stored at the logistics center within 48 hours at most.
The investment comes as Shein, Temu and AliExpress adapt to new taxes imposed by the European Union on small parcels, measures intended to limit the advantages of online retailers from outside the bloc. Starting in July, parcels worth less than €150 were subject to a €3 charge, while from November 1 the fee increased by an additional €2.
Shein’s sales in Europe fell significantly in the second quarter, contributing to a 67% decline in net profit. The company estimates that European taxes could generate approximately €6 billion annually for the EU budget between 2028 and 2034. Shein says the investment will create more efficient and resilient European operations.
