According to the NBR, the current account deficit of Romania's balance of payments increased significantly in 2025, reaching 12.632 billion euro. The balance of goods contributed most to this deficit, while total external debt increased by EUR 4.557 billion to EUR 209.45 billion. The long-term external debt service ratio declined and the import cover ratio was 5.2 months, down from end-2024.
