Pressure from farmers for the rapid approval of the emergency ordinance regarding diesel fuel without VAT and excise in agriculture

The Alliance for Agriculture and Cooperation (AAC) has requested Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to quickly adopt an emergency ordinance essential for the economic survival of Romanian farmers.

The draft ordinance, recently put up for public debate, aims at temporary measures for the plant sector, with the goal of managing the effects of rising diesel prices. Farmers emphasize that support is needed now, during the ongoing spring agricultural campaign, when intensive work is being carried out that requires high diesel consumption. AAC proposes extending the measures to the livestock sector as well and distances itself from the politicization of the initiative, highlighting the importance of food security for Romanians.

It is also reminded that the support does not involve expenses from the national budget, but is based on the reimbursement of the diesel excise tax.

The effect of the ordinance will be limited, but it will provide necessary assistance to farmers affected by rising prices for agricultural inputs.
