According to Eurostat data, in the period from July to September 2025, Romania had the largest current account deficit in the European Union, in contrast to 16 other member states that reported surpluses. Germany topped the ranking with a surplus of 41 billion euros, followed by the Netherlands with 19.7 billion euros and Spain with 15.4 billion euros. Other countries with significant surpluses include Denmark (14.8 billion euros) and Ireland (13.9 billion euros). This situation highlights the economic challenges Romania faces compared to other European economies that benefit from positive trade balances.
