After 10 months of high inflation, Romania has been overtaken by Hungary, which recorded inflation of 5.7% in January.

According to Eurostat, Hungary recorded the highest inflation in the EU in January at 5.7%, followed by Romania at 5.3% and Croatia at 5%. Inflation in the EU rose to 2.8% and in the euro area to 2.5% in January. Core inflation in the euro area, which excludes prices for volatile goods, also remained unchanged at 2.7% in January.
