The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Luca Niculescu, announced that Romania has obtained the 16th Formal Opinion in the accession process to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), specifically for the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policies. This opinion confirms that the National Statistical System is aligned with OECD standards, a crucial step considering the importance of statistics within the organization. Niculescu emphasized that the OECD collaborates with international institutions to ensure the coherence of statistical data, covering areas such as economy, education, health, and environment.

He also congratulated the team at the National Institute of Statistics for their efforts and mentioned that Romania now has 9 committees remaining to be completed. Accession to the OECD is expected to bring significant benefits, including attracting investments and improving governance. Niculescu highlighted the importance of access to comparative statistical data, which is essential for public policy formulation. Romania began the accession process in 2022 and has completed 16 out of the 25 necessary chapters.
