The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, stated that officials from the United States have informally agreed to Romania's proposal to reopen the Petrotel Lukoil refinery, which was closed due to sanctions imposed on Russia. This refinery will provide approximately 20% of the domestic fuel market's needs. Ivan mentioned that the Ministry of Energy has started discussions with American giants in the trading and diesel production sectors, thus preparing for the resumption of operations.
Additionally, Romania has expanded agreements with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to ensure sufficient stocks of oil and petroleum products. Furthermore, Ivan emphasized that Romania has capped gas prices for the population, thus stabilizing the market. In the context of rising fuel prices, Ivan discussed support measures within the governing coalition. Refineries in the country, including Petrobrazi, are operating at maximum capacity to meet domestic demand.
