The Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, announced that Romania manages to cover 78% of its meat consumption from domestic production, during a meeting with the president of the Buzău County Council, Marcel Ciolacu. Buzău County has been a leader in accessing funds for the development of the pig farming sector, with nearly 58 million euros for pigs and 30 million euros for poultry.
The projects launched in 2023 aim at the production of over 322,000 piglets and nearly 10 million chickens annually, starting in 2026. Barbu emphasized that these investments have positioned Romania as the main exporter of poultry, with an export of nearly 290 million chickens, and highlighted the success in the cereal sector, especially corn.
