This winter, Romania recorded a gas consumption 25% higher compared to the last five winters, due to extremely low temperatures, said the Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan. Although the gas price is capped, the increase in consumption has led to higher bills for Romanians. Ivan assured that, starting March 31, the price will remain capped at producers, to avoid increasing costs for final consumers for a year.

Additionally, in 2027, Romania will begin extracting gas from the Black Sea, which could reduce prices. The minister also announced aid for vulnerable consumers, who will benefit from discounts on their electricity bills, valid until 2026. Approximately 880,000 Romanians with incomes below 2,500 lei per month will benefit from these measures.
