Interim Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare organized a preparatory meeting at the Ministry of Finance for the next ECOFIN meeting, together with representatives of the National Bank of Romania and the Financial Supervisory Authority. Discussions focused on the main issues on the European agenda and the positions Romania should support.
The topics analyzed included the competitiveness of the financial sector, access to financing, the functioning of capital markets, the efficiency of public finances, energy, and the coordination of economic policies.
Alexandru Nazare emphasized the need for strategic coordination among Romanian institutions ahead of the meeting, so that national interests could be represented more firmly in European negotiations. The minister noted that the positions of the member states do not always coincide and that Romania must prepare its arguments and alliances in advance.
According to Nazare, Romania has expertise and legitimate economic interests to defend, but these must be brought together in a common position and supported by a stronger voice within the European decision-making process.
