The Governor of the National Bank of Romania, Mugur Isărescu, stated at The Economist conference that Romania is facing financial pressures due to high budgetary expenditures and structural vulnerabilities, including a current account deficit and fiscal imbalances. Isărescu emphasized that, although the Romanian economy has shown resilience in recent years, it is necessary to continue positive measures and investments to take advantage of emerging opportunities.
He mentioned the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on energy prices and warned that if the situation worsens, the effects on the economy could be severe. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining investor confidence and financial stability, stating that the BNR must anchor inflation according to expectations and avoid turning uncertainty into instability.
