McDonald's will invest $8.5 billion over the next ten years to modernize its restaurants globally, in an effort to attract customers interested in new options and faster service. The company announced Wednesday that it will introduce grilled chicken sandwiches and wraps and test new products, including egg-based dishes.
Sky Anderson, president of McDonald's USA, said that approximately 30 million Americans use GLP-1 weight-loss medications and are seeking smaller portions with higher protein content. The company's research shows that 60 million Americans are interested in including more protein in their diets.
The modernization plan includes installing lockers to simplify deliveries, more visible coffee preparation areas, expanded play spaces, and kitchen improvements. McDonald's will also expand the use of equipment that contributes to order accuracy. These are already available in 10,000 restaurants and will reach 20,000 locations by 2028.
The company will also accelerate the implementation of the ArchIQ system, developed together with Google. The platform uses artificial intelligence to improve order accuracy and automate tasks such as inventory management.
