Lukoil Overseas has started exploratory drilling again in the Trident perimeter, 170 kilometers offshore the Black Sea, with an estimated budget of 450 million lei. Although previous explorations in 2014 and 2019 did not confirm gas reserves, Lukoil is continuing the endeavors, with the approval of the National Agency for Mineral Resources until 2026. Romgaz, a minority shareholder, will contribute 12.2%. While commercial exploitation remains uncertain, Lukoil appears to be pursuing a broader strategy in the region.
