The Greek group Jumbo, an important player in the retail of toys and household items, reported a decrease in sales of approximately 4% in Romania in January 2026, while other countries in the region, such as Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Greece, recorded significant increases of 15%, 12%, and 11%, respectively. The group's management attributes this poor performance in Romania to a difficult macroeconomic climate, characterized by the depreciation of the leu against the euro, the increase in the VAT rate, and new fiscal measures affecting consumption.
Despite the challenges in Romania, Jumbo reported an overall sales increase of 8% at the group level, supported by positive results from Greece and Cyprus. The company anticipates a sales growth of 5% throughout the year, relying on its size and control over the supply chain to face market challenges.
